SciGenom Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, is working to promote Science in India through research and education. Currently the foundation is involved in a number of research initiatives that are typically not funded by government agencies, but identified as scientifically relevant and important by our scientific advisory board and consulting scientists. In addition to research activities, through our educational arm, SGRF Conferences, we conduct a number of educational workshops and international conferences to promote Science in India. We have instituted awards to recognize outstanding educators and also support students through scholarship programs.
We are seeking a qualified candidate to join the foundation as independent investigators and help with its educational and research activities. Successful candidate will have strong scientific expertise in broad areas of biology including, molecular biology, large-scale genomics/genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, cancer biology/genomics. wild life conservation genomics and other related areas. The successful candidate will also have strong publication record and excellent communication skills. Experience with science education outreach through experience in organizing workshops, conferences and classroom programs would be valuable. The individual is expected to have the good leadership skills and help build, shape and influence the organization, working closely with its leadership team and board members.
Roles and responsibilities:
Research activity responsibilities:
Plan and conduct research work in the broad areas identified by the foundation’s leadership team.
Publish such work in top tier journals.
Where appropriate generate IPR that will support and sustain SGRF activities.
Plan, prepare and apply for national/international grants to support research work.
Plan and guide junior members of the organization on Research work as appropriate.
Work with the SGRF leadership team and advisory board members periodically to refine the goals of the organization, as needed
Support SGRF website content and collaterals as needed
Serve as SGRF’s ambassador and represent SGRF at national and international events as needed
Work with relevant SGRF staff to help setup laboratory in Bangalore/local cities and help with necessary certifications such as DSIR to enable SGRF to pursue its Research and outreach activities
10-20% travel will be required to represent SGRF at national and international scientific and operational meetings
Education and outreach responsibilities:
Plan, drive and participate educational outreach activities, including organizing educational conference with the approval of the SGRF leadership team
Manage the SGRF awards and scholarship programs, including preparing the documents announcing the activities, as needed
Support ongoing community health initiatives (eg: Retinoblastoma screening initiative).
